Design & Technology
At St. Chads, we strive to give children a high-quality Design & Technology education which enables them to become creative and critical thinkers. The topics and disciplines we cover provide children with an opportunity to solve real and relevant problems, alongside learning to control, direct, and apply their creative thoughts.
The children’s journeys with Design & Technology begins in the Early Years, where children are encouraged to explore, join and connect materials together, following plans of their own design. They are also introduced to simple process in relation to food and nutrition, such as mixing, pouring and cutting. Alongside improving their gross and fine motor skills, these activities allow children to discuss topics such as hygiene, safety and healthy eating.
In Key Stage 1 & 2 the children explore Design & Technology skills by answering a question. These inquiries allow them to generate, develop and communicate their ideas. Each year, the children revisit a technique but are challenged by new materials or purposes for their products. The structure of our curriculum gives children the opportunity to make links between Design & Technology and their present or previous topics across other areas of the curriculum. Each topic enables children to build confidence, harness their creativity, and experience problem solving.
